Pharmacologic Action

Kanamycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic, and the antibacterial spectrum is similar to streptomycin, but the effect is slightly stronger. It has a strong antibacterial effect on most Gram-negative bacilli such as Escherichia coli, Proteus, Salmonella and Pasteurella multocida, and is also sensitive to Staphylococcus aureus and tuberculosis bacillus. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Gram-positive bacteria (except Staphylococcus aureus), Rickettsiae, anaerobic bacteria and fungi are resistant to this product. Similar to streptomycin, sensitive bacteria are easily resistant to kanamycin. There is cross-resistance with neomycin and unidirectional cross-resistance with streptomycin. Escherichia coli and other Gram-negative bacteria often develop acquired drug resistance.

Drug Interactions:

(1) It has synergistic effect with penicillins or cephalosporins.

(2) The antibacterial effect is enhanced in an alkaline environment, and the antibacterial efficacy can be enhanced when used with alkaline drugs (such as sodium bicarbonate, aminophylline, etc.), but the toxicity is also increased accordingly. When a pH value exceeds 8.4, the antibacterial effect will be weakened.

(3) The ototoxicity of this product can be enhanced when used with cephalosporins, dextran, powerful diuretics (such as furosemide, etc.), erythromycin, etc.

(4) The neuromuscular blocking effect of this class of drugs can be enhanced when used with skeletal muscle relaxants (such as succincholine chloride, etc.) or drugs with such effects.

Efficacy and Use

This product is an aminoglycoside antibiotic, used to treat sepsis, and urinary tract and respiratory tract infection.

Usage and Dosage

Intramuscular injection: at a dosage of 0.1 ~ 0.15mL per 1kg of body weight of livestock. It is to be used twice a day for 3-5 days.
